Do California State Jobs Drug Test?

Yes, there could be a pre employment drug test for illegal drug before you become an employee but it depends on the job classification of the employer.

Some job classifications require you to pass a pre-employment drug test or drug screen to test for substance abuse, per California Law State Personnel Board (SPB) Regulations 213.0-213.6. The class specification (job description) will include this information if a pre-employment test is required.

What drugs are tested during drug screening?

Amphetamines/methamphetamines, cocaine, marijuana/cannabis (THC) which includes medical marijuana, opiates (narcotics), and phencyclidine (PCP) are scanned during workplace drug testing.

How is drug testing administered?

Urine test.

Is there random drug testing?

Yes, there could be a random testing if there is reasonable suspicion to ensure a drug free workplace.

Job classifications that have a greater than normal level of trust, or responsibility for, or impact on, the health and safety of others are designated as sensitive positions.

Is there alcohol testing?

Only if there is suspicion in certain classifications.

List eligibility is your ability, as a candidate, to get a job based on your score of an examination.  Simply put – the better you score on the exam the better chance you have of getting the job.
